by: Linda Fryer, BMI, CLA © Nov. 2001 "DICK SHUEY SINGS COUNTRY FROM THE HEART" ARTIST: DICK SHUEY I'm always lookin' for something different. Today I found it. And of course, who in the world better to set me up with something TOTALLY different, than my friend and yours, Dick Shuey? I can always count on Dick, my favorite 'curmudgeon' to do something to surprise me. What a fun guy to know! If there's one thing he is NOT, it's boring. And his humor shows up all over this CD. He just has a way of leaving his fingerprints on everything he touches. His humor IS his fingerprint! " Country From the Heart" is his first album, and it obviously WAS done from his heart. You can tell that from the first minute it begins. And speaking of beginnings, this one starts right off with a big surprise! I mean, who would think that the first thing they'd hear on a music album, would be an intro from a radio show? Not I. But that's exactly what I got. The very first words you will hear, is something like " and now, here's the star of this weeks' show, Dick Shuey!" This is followed by Dick's rendition of "Splish Splash". He does a great job with this song, by the way. The conversation with the DJ that follows the song (courtesy of The U.S. Air Force "Country Music Time") is very interesting, too. Even educational! If you want to learn a little bit about the music industry, at least from Dick's viewpoint, then listen well. He explains a lot about the business, including the behind-the-scenes work of a talent agent. Ok, I know some of you don't use a talent agent. Some of you can't afford ANY kind of agent. (Me neither) But, at least, when you listen to Dick tell you all about it, you'll have a better understanding of the process. And with the hard work that Dick so often talks about (as well as a little bit of good luck), there WILL come a day when you WILL be able to afford one AND maybe even NEED one! But hey, this album isn't ALL about conversation! Nooooooo. Dick sings some of his favorites, too. I really have to tell ya, my favorite on the whole thing is "Welcome Back Again". What a great traditional country tune! And I'm wonderin' hey Dick, did you write this one for anyone special?" (smile) Doesn't matter. It's just a good song. In fact, I have no complaints about any of them! Some are taken from live stage/studio performances, from the sound of it. It's unique, that's for sure, and I highly recommend you grab this one up for your collection. I'm not sure you'll get a chance like this again. Dick hasn't told me of any plans for future albums. But then, he doesn't tell this "yankee" EVERYTHING. Hmmmm, wonder why not? (smile) So, who knows? Just get this one while you can. Don't take any chances on missing out on some of the best REAL country music from the past and present, sung by a great guy who a lot of us know and love. Way to go, foxy! And this has been, as always, with love and honesty
