Good country music is good country music. GREAT country music well, that's something else again..and with this new CD from Jimmy and Jenny Eaves, that's the ONLY way I can describe it. Listening to every song, is like hearing an old radio station playing the old standards from days gone by. It hurts my heart to realize that I can no longer just turn on the radio, and hear this stuff!! It's insane!! Jimmy's wife
has joined him on the album, and what sweet music they make together,
singing "I Heard A Bluebird Sing" (Pharis Hod) . It's a delight. All
the songs here are for those of you who really DO love country music, the kind
that USED to be. The kind that Hank, Jimmy Rodgers, Roy Acuff, and Patsy Montana
used to bring to the stage. And boy, is that sadly missed by true fans of traditional
country music. But don't worry, it's still alive and well
.and I can
PROVE it! Jimmy is such a purist. No one in this day and age, can touch him. So how come we aren't hearing more of his music on the radio? No need to answer that question .it's a rhetorical one. But, lets just talk about Jimmy and his music. Jimmy AND Jenny! I loved all the tunes she sang with him including "Whats In Our Heart" (G.Jones, J.Mathis), "Somewhere Between" (Merle Haggard), and, of course, " .Bluebird" . What a great duo they make, and I'm sure their love is what makes the sun shine so brightly in their music. .'Hey, Jimmy, thanks for adding Jenny to this brilliant new album!' There's not much more I can say about this new album, except to tell you that every song is perfect. Listening to that steel guitar (Dickie Overbey), and all the other guitars (Justin Trevino/Levi Mullens), including the TickTack, was just pure country heaven! Add a fiddle (Howard Kalish), some drums (Justin Trevino) and a piano (Ron Huckaby), and like I said before ..perfection! What could BE more country? And what more could we ask? Welllllll, we MIGHT ask for some good ol' yodeling and guess what ..we'd have it! Yep, Jimmy doesn't leave out a thing, and his talent does include that wonderful, and nostalgic sound of the yodel. You'll hear it, too, on the song called "Ole Hank" (Big Bill Lister), which couldn't have been done better by anyone else, I promise you. Thanks, Jimmy and Jenny, for a great record, and for giving me the chance to hear and review it. Always a great honor, when I can listen to such talented folks. So now, why don't YOU folks run on over to Jimmy's website, and see if you can pick up this album. http://www.jimeaves.com .or you will probably find it in Ernest Tubb's Record Stores, too. If you have any problems finding it, get in touch with Jimmy. I'm sure he will be MORE than happy to help ya out. So, folks, that's my review a GREAT album, by a GREAT singer .AND his wife .AND some darned good musicians, too! I can't think of anything I'd have rather listened to, this afternoon. But, (and do I have to keep saying this??) ..it's only
