Hank Brake
CD: "Maybe I'd Best Leave
Well Enough Alone" Ok, kiddies. It'd time to let
you know what's what, and who's who in the Indie world. The "who",
in this case, is a very talented young artist named Hank Brake. The "what",
is one of the best CD's I've had the pleasure of seeing and listening to,
in a long time. And, yes, I DID say "SEE". Why? 'Cause this is much
MORE than just a CD, it's an ENHANCED CD! And what a thing of beauty it is!
It's not often that I get an enhanced CD to review, in fact, its downright
RARE! So, of course, I popped it right into the ol' computer, and took a look-see.
It contains more than just a great bio, with great pics, lots of other great
stuff.it also contains a full, complete, and brilliantly made video of the
title track. I love good music AND, what a great bunch of songs! This guy is strong. With a voice that is pure and rich, he has a real talent for proving to an audience (in this case, ME), just how passionately he feels about a song. I have a hunch that Hank Brake (great name, by the way) has yet to hear a song he hasn't been able to "get into". Well, I suppose we've ALL heard a few bad ones, but he sure hasn't chosen any for this wonderful debut album. And with the exception of the title track, all the songs have been recorded by various other artists at one time or another, and they give Hank a chance to show off his style and range as well as a voice so beautiful, I wasn't sure I was really listening to a "DEMO" album by an unsigned artist! But that's what he told me, and I have to believe him. (dang, I'm easy!) At any rate, I challenge anyone out there, to tell me where he makes a single mistake on this terrific album. There just are none! Hank, who's PURE country, was born in Raleigh, NC and now calls Stone Mountain, GA his home. He has a way of taking us through the many various styles of good country music, without confusing us. He can sing a ballad that makes you BELIEVE. And when he steps into some country swing, well I can only hope you have your "honey" nearby, 'cause you're gonna want to dance! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of every song on this CD. Larry Butler produced the project, and co-wrote (with Dean Dillon) the title track, "Maybe I'd Best Leave Well Enough Alone". I have to say, Mr.Butler did a brilliant job. But then, we would expect no less from this award -winning song-writer/producer. Production is SUCH an important part of putting an album together, and unfortunately that little detail is, too often, lost on some of the new artists. In fact, it's often lost on some of the not-so-new artists too! Sad, but true. When we listen to a song, we want to hear the singer who's singin' it! Well, you'll hear Hank on this CD, and you'll also have the great fortune of hearing a very talented group of musicians backing him up. You know folks, just having the honor of listening to the many wonderful musical works that come across my desk, is quite enough for me. But when something this special is dropped on me, then I have to say to myself, "what a lucky gal!" To get some more info and to tap into some of his music, be sure to check out www.mkoc.com/Horizons/ brake.htm and then I hope you all will take a quick look at Hank's website, http://www.hankbrake.com ,where you can read all about him, as well as listen to some clips and order the album that I'm listening to right now! 'Course, I can't force you to do it, I can't even make you agree with me about it. But I've tried my best! Hey, I haven't steered you wrong yet, have I? Ok then. As they say in that commercial."just DO it!" And of course, as usual.its only...
