Ok, I confess. I've been busy, lately, with my "other" job, (you know, the one that has me writing copy and slaving over my drawing table, so I can actually EAT or buy a new hat, once in awhile) so I've been missing some of the greatest music of all time! No, really!! But, today, I listened to a CD that totally got my attention. I knew it was good, the minute I heard the first 3 notes! And that's sayin' something!!
Bill "Dawg" and the Dirt Road Rockers have a wonderful album out now, self-titled and super! It's great fun to listen to. Why, you ask? Well, let me tell ya just a few things about this album. First of all, and in my most humble opinion…its WELL PRODUCED! If you've been reading my reviews for very long, you KNOW how important that is to me. Take a great singer, or band, or whatever…give them to a bad producer, and boom! It's ruined! Who would ever recognize the talent, if the studio and producer don't know how to make a record? Take away a good production, but try to put it on a CD, and it ends up sounding like you were at home, with your tape machine set up in the living room, no producer, no sound man, no nuttin'….and not many artists can get away with that. Even the "stars" of today, depend on their studio/producers to make 'em sound like professionals. Now, that's NOT saying Dawg and the band can't sing or play. It's just the realistic world of today's music. And yes, I know I'm stepping on my own words here, saying a producer and studio are important to a talented artist. I know I've said some things, in the past, that seem to contradict this opinion. But, believe me…I'm not talking about whether or not the artist is talented. I'm just saying that when you decide to put your work "in print" , so to speak, it has to sound good, beginning to end. And inside out. It can NOT sound like an amateur recording, or it won't sell. PERIOD. Now, getting up on the stage is a whole other thing, which I won't get into right now, 'cause we're talkin' about a CD here. Ok?
So, back to Bill "Dawg" and the Dirt Road Rockers. This album leaves nothing out. They've picked really good songs to put on this CD, and with the exception of two of those songs, Bill had his hand in the writing of all of them. Some of my favorites include "Old Dance Floor" (Bill "Dawg" Moore), the first one up, and the one that got my attention…"Dirt Road Rockers" (Tom McCormick/Bill "Dawg" Moore/Alan "Snake" Globekar), what a rockin' tune, what great guitars, and hey, if you don't just JUMP outta your chair with this one, you MUST be dead!…"You Ain't No Honky-Tonk Woman" (Tom McCormick), a great song to dance to…and "Can't Compare to Lovin' You" (Bill "Dawg" Moore), reminds me of some of the songs I hear on those "oldies" stations, like 50's tunes. I love that stuff!

I'd be very remiss, if I didn't mention the great band. I mean, a good lead singer is vital to any group. But so is the band! And this one is so good, they could easily have taken any of the songs, completely on their own…no lyrics, just straight instrumentals. Does that sound like I like them BETTER than the lead? NOPE. It just means I think the total package is superior! I highly recommend this album, folks. I KNOW you'll love it! I have no qualms at all about sending you to their site http://www.BillDawgMoore.com and takin' a listen, right now, this VERY minute! In fact, why don't you go on over there and listen to it as you re-read this review! Okok, you don't have to re-read the review…but PLEASE visit their website, listen to the music, and let me know if you don't agree with me, 100%. Ok? OK!! ….oh yeah, as usual, this IS just ...
